Because music matters.

Instrumental Competition

The Pasadena Showcase House Instrumental Competition has awarded over $500,000 in prize money since it began in 1985. Musicians who play string, woodwind and brass instruments compete for individual prizes that range from $500 to $6,000 to further their education. The judging panel includes members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and prize monies for the Instrumental Competition are drawn from the proceeds of the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts’ annual fundraiser, the Pasadena Showcase House of Design.

Most competitors go on to have distinguished careers. It is a great source of pride for PSHA to make a contribution to their education and professional success.

The Instrumental Competition is open to string and woodwind musicians ages 16 – 23, and brass musicians ages 17 - 24 who reside or attend school in Southern California.

How to Apply:

Regretfully, due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, we have found that we are unable to host an Instrumental Competition this year.  We are using this hiatus to reevaluate the program and hope to have exciting announcements in the coming months.
